Introduction

A mother holding on.
Children learning to let go.
And a quiet village in Hualien where resilience is passed down like inheritance.
In this episode, we meet Kuei-ying and her four children — a Bunun family living across three different places, yet still deeply tied to one another. After their father’s passing, each family member learns to carry grief, responsibility, and dreams of their own. The eldest daughter carries the weight of a single decision she once made for her father, while the twins devote themselves to the demanding world of weightlifting under the guidance of a coach who has become more than a mentor — a steady father figure in their lives. Meanwhile, the youngest quietly dreams of carving out a different path for himself. And through it all, Kuei-ying does everything she can to hold the family together, even as she worries about the day her children may drift too far from home. How does a family stay close after losing the person who once held it together?

Can hardship, love, and discipline shape the kind of strength that carries a person forward?
And when children begin chasing futures their father never got to see, how does a mother learn to hold on and let go at the same time?
Let’s dive in and find out!
